Tumblr Crushes for Follow Friday, 3 June 2011: Tumbcrusher Alpha Edition ☀
For this edition of my fellow Tumblr showcase presentation, I am delivering output in mechanized fashion — via a Google Chrome Extension I have written to auto-generate a Tumblr Crush report from my Tumblr /following page. It is an initial stab, and I need to work the kinks out, as well as restructure the actual content also.

I am eager to share it with all of you in Tumblrville, but I am not satisfied with it yet. Plus, as hitherto, I have never developed a Google Chrome Extension (nor a Mozilla/Firefox extension), I must learn how to “production-ize”, deploy and host somewhere (no doubt in the Google-Chrome-Plex somewhere) where it can be easily shared and implemented.
But I am still deciphering what actually what the final form and presentation should be — the difficulty is that everyone uses Tumblr in their own unique manner. Initially, I tried just listing Tumblr blogs and descriptions. Except some do not have any relavent content in their “description” or worse, it is predominately constituted with forms and scripts. Then, I considered focusing on Tumblr tags and possibly aggregating posts by tag tallies, but not every Tumblr makes use of the Tumblr tag feature. And others may fill in tags in humorous and/or sardonic ways. Best idea may be just to feature the most recent posts but even here, this needs to be thought out — as how to reflect the different sorts of Tumblr posts in a concise and appealing fashion.
Furthermore, maybe this is all just giant overkill. Mushrooming complexity for what was just a simple chore of copying and pasting links from the Tumblr Crush scoreboard. Perhaps I can tone down, remove the API calls and just dump a simple ordered Tumblr blog title link list.
Then there is the formatting — what would make a cool Tumblr Crush report? What would be a slick way to present it as a Tumblr post? Does anyone think such a browser extension useful or worthwhile? Will you help me improve it?
