Tumblr “Wishlist” ☀
a queue that works. this means that the posts should be released in order, at intervals i set. this should adjust to account for interim posts that do not come from the queue, things added to the queue, and things moved to the top of the queue.
a bookmarklet that works more efficiently. i do most of my posting through the bookmarklet. currently, it still strips all formatting from copied text, including removing the link information from copied links. this means it requires a lot of extra fussing or re-cutting and re-pasting the text each time to avoid having to re-insert the links one by one.
Don’t know why repairing evident flaws should be part of a “wishlist”. Maybe that’s my programmer self perspective at work, though.
Tumblr queue behavior seems to have improved notably within the past week, and when it does go off the rails now, the effect seems to be more minor in scope (i.e., dumping only a few posts instead of the entire lot). Hopefully, that means the gremlins there have been mostly exorcised.
On the other hand, the bookmarklet (and rich text editor) is presently a source of great embarrassment for what otherwise is an extraordinarily polished and quality web application. And each successive iteration of change to the editor forms introduce a slew of new bugs and glitches on top of the existing litany of snafus.
Allow me to present a summary list, once again, since my published pleas and support emails, to date, have met with numb indifference:
- Indent/outdent inoperative. Well, not totally, as the visual presentation is updated but no “blockquote” tag is inserted to the post HTML. Furthermore, it’s impossible to add text not contained within a “blockquote” block unless you opt for HTML source mode. Which kind of defeats the purpose of a “rich text editor”.
- Bookmarklet/rich text editor button inconsistency. After a recent iteration of change, the rich text editor does not have Outdent/Indent button icons, but a single “Blockquote” icon that, on the plus side, unlike the bookmarklet, actually works. But it appears only capable (at least with my web browsers) of adding or removing a single “blockquote” tag. Which makes for an annoying edit chore when in the midst of a stream of reblogs. Again, the chore of entering into HTML source mode to properly format a post.
- Superfluous stripping of HTML tag attributes. Namely the “HREF” on “A” links. Weird that other attributes are unmolested (i.e., “TITLE”, “CLASS”). Worse, with the recent bookmarklet/editor “upgrade” (I believe to use “EM”/”STRONG” instead “B”/”I”), when inserting them back in manually (with the “Link” icon or via HTML source mode), they are stripped off again (bookmarklet only, rich text editor OK). Also, “STYLE” attribute seems to be on the “to be stripped” checklist too, making it a pain to include a floated image in a post (specifically significant for longer “true blog style” posts).
- Butchering of list elements upon outdent/indent actions. Hard to tell if this is still an issue anymore, because of the aforementioned glitches preclude recreating this scenario.
- Image copy and paste. Used to work well but at some point, just ended up with a “ghost” image. To be fair, have not tested and recreated in some time. So it might be something since resolved.
It’s doubly lamentable that most all of this list denotes a regression from a state of a superior editor to now what is a frustrating exercise for any post requiring some text munging.
