No computer business would exist if it weren’t for mass transfers of wealth during the Cold War to military technology interests. In fact, computers draw on a wide range of common culture and industry, from plastics to mathematics to roads to English itself, before cordoning off a slice from the commons and forbidding others to touch it under threat of government penalty. Why Not Just Give Patents to the Poor?
