On Objectivity and Truth

squashed:

As a blogger I feel no responsibility toward objectivity. I’ll leave the perpetuation of the myth of an unbiased center to more traditional media.

I think there is a duty to tell the truth fairly. I’m not inclined to echo vacuous talking points of people I normally agree with. But balance for the sake of appearing balanced? You can balance anything if you put the fulcrum in the right place.

I believe people confuse OBJECTIVITY with NEUTRALITY.

One can be biased to a given point of view, but be objective in issuing assertions on the empirical evidence and acknowledging the perspective of the other side.

One can adopt a “neutral point of view” and yet totally slant reporting to suit a chosen narrative.
