It can’t be disproven. It’s a charge that describes the internal state of someone, but the accuser can’t see the heart. So, ideally, the charge of envy has to be based on some external evidence, some action or confession. That sort of proof would be grand if it included, say, the diary of a Leftist who confessed, “I really hate success. I really want to take down the rich.” But conservatives don’t point to this sort of evidence for their charge. They just assume any criticism of the rich must always stem from envy. The conservative charge of envy, then, operates much like the Left’s accusation of hatred and hate crimes.
