We’ll Need 70 Percent More Food ☀
Global population is expected to hit 9.1 billion in the next 40 years, causing demand for food to double. The U.N. says we will need to produce 70 percent more food by 2050 or risk starving hundreds of millions of people.
That’s a pretty tall order, given the ongoing impact of climate change on crops and the competitive threat of the exploding biofuels market.
But humans have faced this challenge before. It was once thought that the 1970s and 1980s would see the mass starvation of many millions, an idea advanced most prominently by the book “The Population Bomb.”
