Question for the older heads. Do you remember how shocked you felt when you first heard a Conservative quote Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech in support of ending Affirmative Action? You remember all the anti-civil rights organizations with civil rightsy sounding names? This was the rise of the rhetoric of colorblindness, and it still is a fair description of Mainstream America’s approach to the racial reality it created (though current events has made the position as absurd as Daffy Duck playing Othello).

Because folks started reminding people that Dr. King had considerably more to say about race, economics, politics and justice than those five words, his image and legacy survived that sullying. But Glenn Beck is taking another run at using Dr. King to make an even greater absurdity than colorblindness.
